JONATHAN KANE is a Downtown NYC legend -- as co-founder of the no-wave behemoth Swans and the rhythmic thunder behind the massed-guitar armies of Rhys Chatham and the rock excursions of La Monte Young -- and one of the hardest-hitting drummers on the planet. In his own work, Kane summons Swans' concussive wallop, Chatham's dense guitar strata, and the perpetual propulsion of 70s krautrockers Neu, then steers it all head-on into... the blues. In Kane's high-decibel swaggeryou'll hearthe mind-blowing reinvention of both minimalism and the blues:guitar-driven minimalism propelled into the blues, and the blues exploding into guitar-driven harmonic maximalism.

JONATHAN KANE'S FEBRUARY features rock legend ERNIE BROOKS (MODERN LOVERS, RHYS CHATHAM) on bass; DAVID DANIELL, DAVID BICKNELL, JON CRIDER and PAUL DUNCAN on guitars and JONATHAN on drums.

"A massively subtle psychedelic system... Here, even the slightest flux in rhythmic/melodic detail seems almost tectonic ... Ferocious." The Wire

"Paradise between the back porch, the urban jungle and the heavens above ... Rarely does the avant-garde rock this hard." Time Out New York

"February is a drone-inspired record in a big way; massive walls of chugging Chatham/Branca-leaning dissonant single guitar chords lead the way through long, and at times bluesy workouts. ..." WFMU

"ROCKS! Great Southern-fried looped blues rock. Like Steve Reich if all he listened to was Muddy Waters and Zeppelin." Dusted

CHRIS CORSANO

www

Chris Corsano has gained a well-earned reputation as one of the hardest-working drummers around. Equally at home with intense kinetic explosions of energy and concentrated near-silence, he effortlessly flows from one idea to the next, always sympatico with his fellow musicians. He has recorded and gigged with, among others, Paul Flaherty, Thurston Moore, Jessica Rylan, Jim O'Rourke, Matt Heyner, Mick Flower, Nels Cline, Jandek, Greg Kelly, Daniel Carter, Six Organs of Admittance, Evan Parker, Sunburned Hand Of Man, Okkyung Lee, Wally Shoup, MV&EE, Keiji Haino, Dredd Foole, Vampire Belt, Joe McPhee, Carlos Giffoni, Akira Sakata, Christina Carter and Heather Leigh Murray.

After moving from western Massachusetts, USA to Manchester, England in 2005, Corsano focused on developing an expanded solo percussion music of his own, incorporating sax reeds, violin strings and bows, pot lids, adhesive tape, and other household devices into his drumkit. In February 2006, he released his first solo recording, The Young Cricketer, and toured the UK opening for the mighty acoustic guitarist Jack Rose.

"The most riotosly energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz. Corsano's sudden shifts of texture and dynamics are a wonder to behold." - The Wire

ROTHKO

www.rothkomusic.co.uk

Based in London, Rothko have been in existence since the spring of 1997, playing their first show at The Hope and Anchor in Islington in August the same year. Their first release was a 7" single, For Danny, on Fierce Panda in the Autumn of '97 and the original line up of Mark, Crawford Blair and Jon Meade, went on to release EP's, singles and three albums, on labels such as Lo Recordings, Bella Union, Foundry, Kraak, Zeal and Narwhal. The original line up disbanded in 2001 and Mark carried on the Rothko name. His first release on his own was his collaboration with Japanese ambient master Susumu Yokota, the 12" EP Waters Edge on Jon Tye's Lo Recordings, and then the album 'A Continual Search For Origins' and 7" single Red Cells on the Too Pure label in 2002. In 2003 Mark started his own label, Trace Recordings, releasing the critically acclaimed Wish For A World Without Hurt album, a collaboration with BLK w/BEAR [aka Washington DC based sound and visual artist Jim Adams]. Since 2004, the line up has been Mark with Michael, Ben and Tom. In the last year they've played festivals and toured in the UK, France and Belgium, and in June 2006 released the EP A Personal Account Of Conflict on BadHand Records and have just finished recording their new album, Eleven Stages Of Intervention.
