NO NECK BLUES BAND

One of the most enigmatic, mysterious, and defiantly anti-commercial groups to emerge from the New York loft scene during the '90s, the No-Neck Blues Band formed in 1992 around a core of multi-instrumentalists who have stubbornly and admirably insisted on individual anonymity. Labelled as "the greatest band ever in the history of the universe" by no less a source than Sonic Youth, NNCK - as the group is oft abbreviated - incorporate elements of folk, drone, psychedelia, free jazz, noise, and just about everything else, carving out a distinctive sound from complementary and disparate components and creating a whole new blueprint for much of today's freak-folk and free-noise experimentalists. www.theserth.com

HOTOTOGISU

Hototogisu is the transatlantic ecstatic metal duo of Leeds' Matthew Bower (of Skullflower, Sunroof & Total) and NYC's Marcia Bassett (of UN, GHQ, Double Leopards & Zaimph). Ludicrously heavy, their sound is a total purging of the nervous system in iron-clad movements, populated by machine gun guitar thrash, rib-throbbing microphone feedback and orchestras of alarm codes - a sensory blitzkreig of the extremist kind. www.hototogisu.org

UNITED LIGHT

United Light is the heavyweight tag team of Jackie-O Motherfucker's Tom Greenwood, Sunburned Hand of the Man's John Moloney and Vibracathedral Orchestra's Mick Flower bring out the free jams. We're not too sure what to expect from these guys, but considering their collective heritage it's got to be an unmissable proposition, right? www.myspace.com/unitedlight
