Moved among other things by '60s minimalism, musicologial field recordings, religious music, doom metal, and Appalachian music, and crafting his ecstatic blur-scapes from delicately caressed pieces of electronic junk, Birchville Cat Motel has gained international recognition as one the bright shining lights of what music journos have dubbed 'drone-music'. Birchville Cat Motel is the music of New Zealander Campbell Kneale. An ever-changing, gently unravelling, ball of pure sound, sometimes beautiful enough to make you weep, sometimes ferocious enough to rip the gravel off your driveway. Verging on the ultra-prolific, a large number of Birchville Cat Motel albums have been made available to the public through some of underground musics snappiest dressed labels as well as through the international cassette/cdr underground.
This will be his first appearance in London and his first date of the UK tour before going to All Ears Festival in Oslo.

"If each sound is cantankerous, put together the results are incredibly evocative"
The Wire, UK
"Think Sunn 0))) circa "White 2" meets Flying Saucer Attack but 1000 times more psychedelic! This (Chi Vampires) is my pick for 2005's album of the year." Vital Weekly
"There's something both timeless and very new about the masses of controlled and overdubbed noise laid down; loud and glorious - like the atmosphere of 1972 vintage space rock, the sludge-of-the-earth amptones of Black Sabbath, and the endless buzzing hum of The Theater of Eternal Music all rolled into one." Perfect Sound Forever, USA

One of the highlights of our DE SONIS micro events, Peter Wright has invested a significant chunk of the last 20 years investigating ways of deconstructing the guitar, from avant-pop and semi-industrial grooves in the 1990s, to experimental soundscaping, semi-acoustic drones and miniature sound poems. He has released in a few underground labels including Celebrate PSI Phenomenon, Pseudoarcana and more recently Last Visible Dog and Digitalis.
In his (albeit rare yet involving) live appearances Wright utilises a combination of field recordings and found sound along with an open tuned 12 string electric guitar improving his way down a hidden path into an aural world. The primitive musical forms that result can seem deeply personal and intimate, totally overtaking the listener into a mesmerising fairy tale. Peter Wright will also be supporting Campbell Kneale in his UK tour and is doing his second [no.signal] event.

Previously aka Little Thief, AMS uses disparate and opposing elements - punishing rhythms with lazy ambience, positive energy with pensive moods. He says that these contrasts suggest dualities such as right/wrong, violence/peace, bitter/sweet, repression/release, physicality/mentality - pointing at something inbetween, beyond. His live work is based around recorded material as a starting point for studio tracks to be re-imagined through entirely analogue improvisation. This his first live appearance at a [no.signal] event since changing identity. To be checked out
