[no.signal] is very honoured to be hosting one of the most important figures of US Minimalism and avant-garde, TONY CONRAD in London, on Friday 01 June 2007 at St Giles in the Field.
A living legend and co-founder of the Theatre of Eternal Music in the late 60s, Tony Conrad's solo violin performances are a mesmerising experience opening the doors to a trance-like state in its pure organic nature. Musician, video//film maker and professor, this will be his first solo performance in London in nearly 10 years since his last visit (where he performed with Krautrock group FAUST).
Tony Conrad has been - along side contemporaries such as Terry Riley, La Monte Young, Angus MacLise - an extremely important influence on both past and current generation working in minimalist contexts. For such reason, we are pleased to have 3 added performances to join the bill including two of the most established Finnish youth 'avant-freak folksters': the cult 8 newborn Christians PAAVOHARJU and their unique personalised genre in their first ever UK performance - and ISLAJA, presenting her new album out on Fonal Records. To close the loop, Glasgow-based RICHARD YOUNGS has finally accepted to make the trip down and do one of his rare performances with us. The performances will be alternated by a special Classical music selection played from old vinyls by Joshua Meggit from ResonanceFM.
