Richard Youngs' first piece of music was a blues called 'Australia'. Dating from the early 1970s it focused on some elbowed piano clusters over which he repeatedly chanted "Australia". It could be argued that between then and now little has changed. In the intervening decades, however, a large body of solo and collaborative work has been recorded in which he has adopted any number of roles alone and in company. His music ranges from the pure experimental, instrumental, minimal, and avant-garde through to folk-inspired songwriting and progressive rock all made from piano, guitar, Casio organs, oboe and voice. His collaborations include Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mother Temple), Simon Wickham-Smith, Alex Neilson with whom he shared the stage for the first ever live appearance of the legendary reclusive American avant-folk/blues Jandek in Glasgow - Youngs’ residence city since the early 90s.

He has toured only once (in 2002) and occasionally performs publicly. This will be a very rare London performance as Richard has not been in the capital for over 3 years.
