TONY CONRAD (b. 1941, living in Buffalo) is without doubt one of the most compelling figures in 20th century music, a profoundly influential composer whose radical styles defies textbook definitions and challenge accepted notions of the minimalist canon. At the core of Conrad's legend is his work as a violinist, in which primal, enveloping drones create an oscillating ritual theatre. In 1962 he co-founded the groundbreaking ensemble Dream Syndicate which included collaborators La Monte Young and future Velvet Underground co-founders John Cale and Angus MacLise. Utilising long durations, precise pitch and blistering volume, they forged a music which was a predecessor to a new form of "minimalism."

Tony Conrad is also recognised for his approach towards experimental film and video with special attention to this masterwork The Flicker, considered the cornerstone of the Structural Cinema movement. Apart from the minimalist figures of the 60s, he has collaborated with Krautrock band Faust, maximinimalist Charlemagne Palestine, producers Steve Albini and Jim O'Rourke. His performances are a must lived experience where all conceptions and limits of sound, trance and visualisation are removed from the standard conception of live event. This will be his first London appearance in over 10 years and first ever London solo performance.

"Slapping Pythagoras is the sound of stasis in excelsis, the fluid microtonal om of Conrad's violin resolving into deep pools of rich, alien harmony." Rolling Stone
